What is something that makes appraisers smile and, or laughs about working in their industry?
Some appraiser’s value like a multi-unit apartment complex, and some other appraisers do when you cannot find anybody who would touch that asset with a 10-foot pole.
For example, Appraiser recently worked with a family that owned three dams and speak to the lady and she was most genuine and she said: “you know I am so glad I met you all the appraisers I was working with before they only knew how to value the real estate on which the dam was sitting not the dam itself”. It was like yeah! Well, that’s the problem that most people in their business, they silo themselves and then they think within that box. Most appraisers never had a box, and they were fortunate or unfortunate to appraise some of the weirdest assets. So, they are not afraid to do something different.
What chapter would you think most companies share, would read, or recommend?
Teamwork, a company, or a corporation is not the land of the building on the border. It’s a group of people working together, forming a culture, and just like any family. They can be ifs and buts and there can be disagreements but at the end of the day, everybody has to know and believe that we’re all in this together and only then it’s a real company. Work into it together and there needs to be trust in that and if trust has then it’s just going to go even stronger as a company. Sometimes, you have to believe that the person who may disagree with the team has their heart in the right place.
Other than the generic work harder have a great attitude and care for customers what other business leaders need to know.
Whatever you do, business leaders are leading people and their patriarchs or matriarchs of a business family and you’re going to make mistakes so, it’s okay everyone do mistakes but if you show up to work every day and do the same things every day and do consistently then, you will improve and you will recognize your mistake and you will improve them. And, Woody Allen said “80% of life is showing up” which means consistency. It also rephrases that as reliability too “you show up”, “you’re consistent” and people understand that you’re relying too on on because you’ve got that track record.
Nobody wants to work with a guy who’s going to be like I don’t know if he’s going to show up or not. No! That’s not cool, don’t know why they show an unreliable person to be cool in the movies because when you’re unreliable, you create stress to the people that you work with. In many cases, it’s just not worth it to deal with somebody like that consistently is inconsistent or unreliable.
